TOME NO. 3: RUSSIA, SUPREMATISM AND THE SORROW OF A CAT PEOPLE.
Written by Jordan Marzuki

First of all, we pleased to welcome you to our website–not forget to mention our new staple collection, Tome no. 3. What's behind the Tome no. 3? The "Tome" collection has been the tradition on our releases, consist of the exploration of cat design. The theme on Tome no. 3 is pretty much abstract. During the process, I currently taking care of his 8 adopted cats, and now I committed myself to feed the stray cats in his neighborhood. Imagine, dealing with cats everyday–it makes me crazy, and as the art director of The Balletcats–which means, when I work design that related to cats. This might be the sorrow of real cat owners/adopters, it is very emotional–they love cats very much it drives them mental.

I took so many pictures of my cats until today. This collection is a result of combining my old cat photos folder with more recent photos. With the feeling of love and hate relationship with the cats, I started to make the photo collage of it. I tried to symbolize human behavior towards cats vice versa using the shape of geometry, and humorous element as well. After hectic days, I and Fatriana decided to go on vacation in Russia. Then I remembered where one of our customer in Russia who had all of our entire products from the very beginning of The Balletcats, her name is Alyona Makhukova. We immediately contacted her whether we can do lookbook shot in Russia, and she answered positively.

Looking for the perfect landscape of ex-Russian communist site, we stumbled on a city called Zelenograd. 40km from Moscow, less traffic, and more authentic Russian experience. Filled with blocky apartment, grey dominated buildings–we pretty much happy with the location.

During the shoot, we lost in a department store that stuck in the 70's. It seems like a picture straight from the USSR era. Most of the booths are selling knick-knacks, umbrellas, and outdated perfume, the shopkeepers look dead in the eye–this place fascinates us in every aspect. Our eyes were pleased with the feast of brutalist architecture.

After the shoot–we pretty much relaxed and visited many museums. One museum called "Russian Museum", located in Sankt-Peterburg is the place where we get introduced by several Russian artists. It is like a maze, there is no way to navigate through halls without maps–yet we got lost in the Avant-Garde section, and we saw a black square painting and a figure with a strong gradient contrast, by a painter named Kazimir Malevich. He has been one my favorite painter and one the one that influenced "Tome no. 3" collection. We didn't expect the museum was home to Malevich's masterpieces. That day, one of our greatest day. Well, I don't know what the hell the point of this first journal, I'm not good at writing something. But, this page reads "journal", it's not an article, expect more jibber jabber from me soon!
